Aster Jewelers

Branding and identity design for Aster Jewelers, an independent jewelry boutique specializing in designer and vintage pieces. Our delivery included logo and visual identity items like color and typography, with consultation on interior look, feel and direction for the shop. We created custom pattern background illustrations for the brand to use across social, web and print collateral like bags and tissue paper.

The Four Seasons

Art direction, development and consultation of Global Image Guidelines and Standards for The Four Seasons in collaboration with VP of Creative and in-house team. Created art direction guidelines for aspects of The Four Seasons visual identity that were needing definition and direction, including architecture, lifestyle, food and beverage, destination and experiences, wellness and casting. These guidelines would give hotel teams specific standard-setting instructions for capturing images that contribute to a cohesive and expressive global brand.

Shop Shoppe

Branding, identity design and art direction for Shop Shoppe, a woodworking studio and retail shop focusing on craftsmanship, quality and ephemeral whimsy. From the logo through to printed collateral and merch, we wanted a visual tone that balanced the precise, high-end quality of the pieces with humor, delight and joy. Both reverent and irreverent, business but pleasure, art and commerce intertwined. We designed printed posters and flyers for the initial pop-up installation, consulted on procurement for swag and merch production, and have site in development for the coming year.

KIMA

Branding, identity design and web design for KIMA Fine Jewelry. Owner and designer Isabel Dennis studied with some of the best stone-setters and jewelers in the world, combining her devotion to precision and luxury-quality jewelry with the punk and urban roots of her origin. We devised a logo and identity system that reflected this balance of clean, precise, technological prowess in play with grounded, gritty visual elements like a bold color palette and sensual backgrounds and textures. For the KIMA site we designed and built a fully customized Shopify site that continued this aesthetic to an online storefront.

Tres Gallos Chocolate

Branding, identity design and packaging for Tres Gallos Chocolate company based in California and Baja Sur, Mexico. Hand drawn cacao pods tell the story of the family-run business in the abstracted bird logo and pay homage, as immersive patterns, to the single-origin beans used in each bar. To celebrate the unique flavors and obsessive passion the makers have for their product, an ecstatic range of unexpected colors with lux finishes on the packaging brings us into the adventurous and thoughtful world of single-origin, micro batch chocolate. Rotating origins mean the location needs to be stamped on by hand during each fulfillment.

MCMC Zodiac Spray

Concept and packaging design for newly launched room sprays based off the astrological signs of the Zodiac. Each sign was interpreted as a fragrance by MCMC Fragrances; a combination of notes to invoke that sign’s character and essence. Studio Paul developed a series of gestural drawing illustrations and color combinations to express those fragrances through packaging.

Ladha

Logo design and branding for Ladha, a jewelry brand focused on making modern heirlooms for the world traveler. Drawing on classic maker’s marks and the titan houses of jewelry, we wanted to develop a graphic language that feels timeless and evocative; something generational that goes beyond just jewelry. Winds of travel, discerning style, easy and durable - these are all the elements of a Ladha piece that are brought to life through the stamp of winding palms, the earthy but vibrant color palette and sophisticated yet relevant typography.

The VINE Rebrand

The VINE is a non-profit initiative made in partnership with the University of California’s Agriculture and Natural Resources department to connect the worlds of tech, ag and sustainability across California and beyond. They needed a full rebrand and development of a more functional design system to better express their mission and create an omnichannel presence for their brand across different platforms. We redesigned the logo, developed a type system and implemented a more vibrant and cohesive color system along with icons, graphic layout direction and presentation templates. In addition to visuals, we developed a messaging strategy to unify the voice across touchpoints and applications.

Hot Set Props

Logo, identity, collateral and web design for Oakland’s first queer-owned prop house and rental company. Hot Set was founded by two active members of the prop styling community who were looking to create a more inclusive and organized prop rental solution for shoots in the Bay Area. The props, like the brand’s personality, were going to be unique, eccentric and rooted in DIY punk culture, but we needed the branding and the site to also reflect the professionalism and organization with which they approach the process. A strong, recognizable and dynamic logo was created to be bold and recognizable while photography, collateral and site took on fun elements of bright color.

Ravit Kaplan Jewelry

Logo, branding, identity design and art direction for Ravit Kaplan Fine Jewelry, an independent designer based in San Francisco. Ravit is interested in exploring tectonic forms, natural textures and modern lines in her jewelry work. The sculptural, organic orientation to the creative process felt best expressed in a clean but stacked logo with strong kinetic energy, set against more sketch-like, organic graphic accents.

Graphic design and illustration for weekly natural wine pop-up Bar Sardine. This event would take place after hours at Bartavelle Cafe in Berkeley with a changing weekly menu of bottles, glasses and snacks. We wanted the menus to reflect the unique and approachable atmosphere of each menu; Bar Sardine should be somewhere to socialize, learn, dream, chat, and be inspired. A visual language of whimsical doodles and characters developed; each week they’d illustrate a mood or a vibe that coincided with the menu. This expands out to social posts, merchandise, and even some tattoos.

H2O+ Brand Update

Skincare brand H2O+ was in the middle of rebranding after 30 years in business. They had the packaging and the logo redesigned but not much else - they needed the visual brand to be flushed out into a graphic system, photography, motion, and digital design. Their new look and feel was a sensorial, hyper-technological, water-based product collection that used science to elevate the skincare experience. Elevating from a drugstore brand to a more prestige price point, it was important to create a visual world that conveyed the care, expertise and imagination that went into every product. This core rebrand rolled out across all channels: editorial imagery, video ads, social media and eventually the e-commerce site design.

H2O+ Detox Body Launch

Detox was the first body collection launched under the new branding for H2O+ and our first test expanding the visual language into a new campaign. The base ingredient for these products was a detoxifying white clay, which we rendered in the editorial stills, and the metallic green was identified as the key product color to express the proprietary green tea and bergamot blend infused throughout the collection.

Bartavelle Annex Pop-Up

Rebranding, web and print design for Bartavelle Cafe in Berkeley. As they transitioned from sit-down cafe to window service in a new space over the pandemic, Bartavelle was looking to update their graphic language and their site to better reflect this new, intimate service model. Knowing that menus would be changing and updating on a regular basis, we brought in a visual system of hand-drawn elements to allow for a playful, flexible design toolkit that allowed them to change and morph as they needed. The optimistic, earnest energy they put into all their coffee and pastries was reflected through the simple but playful web layout and print collateral pieces.

H2O+ Age Renew Launch

The first full-scale launch since the rebrand, Age Renew was the H2O+ line dedicated to replenishing and hydrating skin with youthful peptides and rooibos extracts. We chose gold as the collection’s key packaging identifier and set out to bring that warm, golden glow across the entire campaign. Hydrating water, a core brand visual, and a warm, radiant, golden shimmer were visual cues across photo and video.

IDEO: Creative Difference

Visual branding, design and art direction for an innovative new product from IDEO to help teams collaborate and grow. Working with an illustrator, we wanted to bring a humanistic quality to the digital experience, using hand-drawn elements throughout that spoke to creativity, diversity and problem solving. Each section of the product featured an illustrated identifier to navigate through a resource library, focus areas or dashboard components. The visual language and graphic tools were applied to onboarding documents and presentation templates as well.

We needed to create a flexible system that could both stand out against and compliment the iconic stripe pattern of Sephora’s core identity and landed on the “dot” - equally scalable and perfectly adjacent.

Sephora: Script Typeface

Collaborated in the development of a custom font for global Sephora use. This typeface was designed to compliment the custom serif font and sans serif fonts in use by the company, to add a hand-done touch and organic presence to creative. We collaborated with type design companies Mucca and Schriftlabor to bring the typeface to life with variable ligatures and dynamic alternates.
