Identity Design
Branding and identity design for Aster Jewelers, an independent jewelry boutique in Oakland specializing in curated designer and vintage pieces. When Lindsay Olson (of Adeline Jewelry) took over an old jewelers and watch repair shop, she knew her vision was for the space to feel immersive and lush, rich with color and vintage textures. We wanted the feeling to be contemporary but nostalgic, and intimate while allowing for exploration and discovery. Pulling references from legacy retailers and vintage jewelry shops gave us the inspiration to pursue an identity that played with strong geometries and a bold palette that found its way into patterns and color blocking. Somewhere that feels familiar, adventurous and luxe all at once.
Working from the store interior out, we used the dark green of the existing carpet and warm tones of the vintage wooden cabinets as a jumping off point for the 70’s, institutional legacy jewelers vibe of the graphics. We knew the store experience was going to be our ultimate user experience and always tracked our graphic language around that. Lindsay teamed up with Jessie Galloway to bring the interiors to life and Patrick M. Piccolo for a wonderful gold leaf sign painting treatment in the shop window.
